[The digital pre-viz team easily trimmed ten million dollars off the film's budget.] George Lucas speaking about Star Wars: Episode III in The Washington Times

We build consensus every step of the way

Our whole process is based on collaboration. Whether we start with a simple verbal description or we’re provided with detailed storyboards, concept and script, we make sure everyone involved is on the same page. This allows us to make any changes more quickly along the way , which is vital to both our process as well as the entire production.

The first step is to discuss everyone’s ideas so we can reach an agreement and develop a plan for the sequence at hand. Rough storyboards or shot lists are created, while characters, environments, props and effects are tailored to the client’s wishes. Motion Capture sessions are also planned, often including the director, so we can specify the performances ready for shots. From there we enter the shot production phase. As shots come in, edits are quickly incorporated, which helps to bring the whole sequence to life. By collectively evaluating each step, changes can be made and new ideas integrated on the fly. Throughout the process, we encourage as much feedback as possible in order to nail the ultimate sequence. This means bringing decision makers together for reviews every step of the way; whether via videoconference or in person at Third Floor headquarters.
